Ghana Club Owner Demands Money After Bribing Bid Fails

  • The owner of Eleven Wonders allegedly requested a refund for the referee fees following a 1-1 tie against Techiman Heroes.

  • Even though they had already secured their spot in the Zone 1 playoffs, Wonders reportedly attempted to influence the referees with bribes to gain an advantage and boast about it against their local competitors.

  • On May 30, Eleven Wonders will confront Real Tamale United for a chance to secure their position in the Ghana Premier League, aiming to overcome the stigma of the previous scandal.

The owner of Division One League club Eleven Wonders, Nana Ameyaw, supposedly requested a reimbursement from the referees after his team was unable to win the game, even though they had made certain payments to the officiating crew.

As stated by Communications Officer Odehyeba Gideon Bekoe from Techiman Heroes during a broadcast on Sompa FM in Sunyani, the visiting team chased referee Frederick Samena following the game.

Reported bribery incident in Eleven Wonders versus Techiman Heroes

The proprietor of Eleven Wonders reportedly provided funds to the match officials in an attempt to sway the result of their game against Techiman Heroes, aiming for a victory.

Nevertheless, the contest concluded with a 1-1 tie at Techiman Ohene Ameyaw Park, which greatly annoyed the team’s proprietor. It is said that he confronted the officials post-match, insisting they refund his investment.

The drawn match still enabled Eleven Wonders to clinch a spot in the Zone 1 playoff, where they will encounter Real Tamale United (RTU) on May 30.

The victor in this crucial match will secure their promotion to the Ghana Premier League.

Even though Eleven Wonders had already secured their place in the playoffs, they were eager to beat their local rivals, Techiman Heroes, to claim the upper hand.

“The problem was that following the match, the financier of Techiman Eleven Wonders proceeded to the referee’s room demanding his funds,” stated Odehye3ba Gideon Bekoe.

Bitter Rivalry of the Eleven Wonders: Techiman Heroes Clash

Although the outcome did not affect Eleven Wonders’ chances of making the playoffs, the importance of the DOL match was still recognized by both the team’s leadership and its fan base.

The match versus Techiman Heroes held extra significance due to being a local rivalry, and securing a win could have cemented Eleven Wonders’ supremacy in the Techiman soccer scene.

These circumstances apparently prompted the team to resort to dubious methods to secure victory. However, their scheme ended up failing spectacularly, resulting in the club owner feeling both humiliated and furious.

The Path to Promotion in the Ghana Premier League

In the future, Eleven Wonders will concentrate on their important playoff game against RTU scheduled for May 30.

In recent times, both squads have experienced playing at the highest level and will be keen to make their way back to the Ghana Premier League.

Although the alleged bribery scandal has cast a shadow over the team, they have a chance to change public perception by excelling in their upcoming matches.
