Prempeh College Alumni Launch $100K Legacy Project in Global Edition

By Elizabeth PUNSU

The cohort of Prempeh College alumni, celebrated as “Millennium Amanfo,” which marks two millennia since their inception, has formally initiated their 25th-anniversary celebration project. They have announced an array of events designed to honor this significant landmark.

As stated by the group’s leaders, the initiative projected to cost $100,000 aims to expand the well-liked Canopy Walkway, connecting two recently constructed residences with essential amenities within the educational institution.

The Global President of Millennium Amanfoo, Roland Kwadwo Akomeah, disclosed during his speech at the anniversary launch held at Prempeh College in Kumasi that the initiative was chosen in conjunction with the school’s administration.

For our Millennium Amanfu 25th Anniversary initiative, we have chosen to expand the Canopy Walkway to encompass the final two residences—Arthur Clarke and Matthew Opoku Prempeh Houses. This walkway links various essential parts of the campus such as the Administrative Building, Osae Assembly Hall, Primary Lecture Blocks, Research Labs, Science Resource Center, Dormitories, and Cafeteria. As clarified by Mr. Akomeah, this expansion will ensure safe passage for both students and faculty members to reach these crucial locations under all weather conditions.

The Chairman of the Events Planning Committee and Vice President of the Southern Millennium Amanfoo group, René Buer Plahar, provided more details about the planned events for the upcoming anniversary celebrations. He also highlighted the significance of the legacy initiative.

“This distinctive element, exclusive to Prempeh College, lies at the heart of our legacy project and will be the highlight of our 25th-anniversary celebrations. We aim to restore, refurbish, and expand this landmark so that both present and future cohorts of students can continue to benefit from it,” stated Mr. Plahar.

As stated by Mr. Plahar, the theme for the celebration, “Grounded in ‘Suban’, Blossoming through ‘Nimdeɛ’: Honoring 25 Years of Millennium Amanfoo Distinction,” acknowledges the school’s core education principles, the remarkable success of its graduates across various disciplines, and the enduring importance of the institution’s values.

The commemorative events are scheduled to begin on Friday, December 5, 2025, with a homecoming celebration, followed by a panel discussion addressing a nationally relevant issue.

The renovated Canopy Walkway will subsequently be revealed and transferred, along with interactive sessions for students.

On the morning of Saturday, December 6, Millennium Amanfoo will compete against the Opoku Ware School (OWASS) “Akatakyie” 2000 Year Group in a soccer game. Throughout the day, there will be health checks as well as a gathering with “Amanfoo” traditional rulers. The celebrations will conclude with an evening gala held during a formal black-tie anniversary dinner.

On December 7, 2025, members of Millennium Amanfoo will convene at the J.A. Kufuor Auditorium located within the school grounds to hold a thanksgiving service dressed entirely in white.

Among the notable features of the anniversary will be a mentorship program designed for 25 chosen students along with the release of a special commemorative booklet.

Sylvester Owusu, who previously served as the Senior School Prefect, shared his enthusiasm in a speech for coming back to his old school to contribute to the place that played a significant role in shaping not only his own but also numerous other lives.

Reflecting on the period from 1998 to 2000, we saw significant development, numerous accomplishments, and the uplifting ethos of the green-clad community. The committed educators who shaped our youthful intellects, along with the encouraging parents and peers who exemplified our institution’s principles, make Millennium Amanfoo a living tribute to Prempeh College’s influence. Over these last twenty-five years, this chapter has stood as an emblem of honor and elegance,” he stated.

The occasion was graced by special guests Otumfuo Assinhene of Sepaase, Nana Yaw Akuoko, and Otumfuo Nnibihene, Nana Kwakye Abamono Ababio, — both members of Millennium Amanfoo who pledged their support for the legacy project.

A small-scale fundraiser was conducted during the unveiling event.
