Airtel Kenya has finalized its update for the mobile money service just after the extended deadline it had originally set.
The telecommunications company initiated their system update on Saturday, May 3rd, at 11 PM, with completion anticipated for Sunday, May 4th, by 11 AM.
Nevertheless, a declaration published by the telecom on its X platform stated that the upgrade system concluded on Sunday, May 4, at 9 pm.
“Airtel Kenya has announced with pleasure that the Airtel Money system update has been successfully concluded, and all functionalities are now running smoothly. They regret the extended disruption,” stated the company in an announcement viewed by

Airtel mentioned that improving its mobile money services will enable better customer service.
Airtel subscribers to receive improved service
After completing the overhaul of its Airtel Money services, the company has announced that customers can now access their Airtel Money statements whenever required.
It will be readily available via the My Airtel app and USSD for both clients and agents alike.
Airtel also stated that following the enhancement of its system, customers can anticipate more straightforward money transfers.
The telecom stated that transfers to other networks would necessitate customers entering the recipient’s number just one time. This change aims to provide quicker service experiences through the use of the My Airtel App, USSD services, and our newly improved SIM menu.
As compensation for customers affected by the Airtel Money shutdown during the upgrade phase, all bank transfers to Airtel Money, bill payments via PayBill, and withdrawals through agents will receive a full refund of the transaction fees in the form of airtime up until Monday, May 5 at 11:59 pm.
Airtel was implementing the final stage of its mobile money system update to boost customer satisfaction and strengthen its ability to offer advanced new services to its clients.
Airtel Money customers hit 3 million
Other updates reveal that according to data from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), the telecommunications company boasts a substantial subscriber base.
According to the report, from October to December 2024, Airtel Kenya’s mobile money service, Airtel Money, saw an increase in users, reaching a total of 3 million subscribers, thereby outpacing Safaricom’s M-Pesa.
The document also stated that mobile money subscriptions in the nation reached a total of 42,302,833 for the reviewed time frame.
This particular metric shows that Airtel Money saw an increase in market share by 8.9%, which equates to adding 3,764,952 new customers.
