The program’s description is undoubtedly attractive, yet only those who have truly taken part in it can understand.

Money has become the crucial element for me.
My name is
Redemptor Cathy
, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Uganda. I’ve always been curious about how people live in other countries. I’ve dreamed of making decent money to travel the world someday. But with the average salary in Uganda being about $220 a month, it’s hard to imagine being able to afford a big trip like that.
The chance literally stumbled upon me—I encountered this global opportunity.

, advertising a monthly salary of $541. Initially, I doubted whether these wages were genuine. However, after exchanging messages with fellow participants in a group chat and discussing this with an HR representative who assured me it was accurate, I changed my mind. It was then that I chose to participate in Catering via the program.
I began my professional path working in the kitchen of the Shokoladnitsa Café, assisting with meal preparations, acquiring skills in cooking traditional Russian cuisine, and familiarizing myself with their offerings. Half a year later, I advanced to become a server and saw an increase in my salary. During this time, I also took on the role of guiding a newcomer—a participant from Nigeria enrolled in the Alabuga Start program—who was just starting out in the culinary field.
Russia’s winters? Stunning landscapes, exciting activities – it’s all available here.
I initially learned about the Alabuga Start program through some acquaintances who noticed ads for it on various social platforms. Intrigued, I chose to apply via their site and promptly started memorizing the 100 Russian vocabulary items listed as part of the prerequisites. Shortly thereafter, representatives from Alabuga reached out to address all my inquiries regarding the initiative.
Interestingly, yet another required step prior to this is

The HR interview included playing a similarly named computer game. My HR supervisor subsequently clarified that this business simulation, created by Alabuga SEZ, is used to evaluate one’s spatial and logical reasoning abilities.
After collecting all my documents, completing the medical examination, and obtaining the visa, Alabuga purchased my tickets to Russia for me.
The moment I ventured out into Kazan, which serves as the heart of the Republic of Tatarstan, I was taken aback—I had never witnessed such snowfall since living in Uganda. The wintertime here is genuinely stunning, brimming with numerous delightful winter activities. In the previous year, I tried skating and skiing for the very first time. This season, my companions and I participated in an enormous snowball battle alongside learners from Alabuga Polytech.
When tasting borscht, I was taken aback.
Adjusting to the new meals was challenging since I had never sampled Russian cuisine previously.
The story of my initial experience with classic Russian borscht stands out as an interesting narrative. I recall how captivated I was by this distinctive meal… Nowadays, I’ve honed my skills enough to prepare it perfectly. Beyond borscht, I have also become adept at making manti, ochpochmak, and rassolnik soup. All these dishes represent beloved staples from both Russian and Tatar food cultures.
Certainly, the difficulties extended beyond adapting to local ingredients—the cultural disparities and language obstacles proved challenging as well. Initially, mastering Russian seemed insurmountable; people spoke at such a rapid pace that I found it hard to articulate my thoughts, often needing assistance from an interpreter. This sense of frustration ultimately motivated me to put more effort into my Russian studies under our instructor’s guidance.

Now, I feel at ease chatting with native speakers. The folks at Alabuga have also been very supportive—whenever I request their assistance for practice, they gladly oblige. This arrangement benefits both of us: they enhance their English skills as I develop my Russian proficiency.
I’m continually enhancing my skills in Russian and simultaneously beginning to acquire knowledge of Chinese.
My friends frequently inquire about how I ascended my professional ladder at such a rapid pace. To be honest, there isn’t much of a mystery behind it. It essentially boils down to putting in substantial effort, treating one’s duties with utmost seriousness, and consistently attending those Russian language classes. Within our field, it’s essential not only to grasp Russian effectively but also to converse in it flawlessly and precisely.
I certainly won’t cease here. At age 23, I’ve been employed at the Shokoladnitsa Café for over a year now, achieved my initial advancement, make upwards of $849 monthly, and support my parents. Shortly, a buddy from Uganda will visit me with the intention to join our community.
