Hyderabad (Telangana), India — On May 22, amid the swiftly changing technology sector, two freshmen from
NextWave Institute of Advanced Technology (NIAT)
Have garnered attention for their victories in prominent hackathons. Recently, some of their pupils triumphed in two events: they developed an AI-driven health monitor in one competition and revived a fictitious struggling business in another. This achievement, nonetheless, did not happen by chance. It stems from an educational setting oriented towards the future, integrating practical experience, curricula aligned with industrial needs, and individualized assistance.
AI Converges with Well-being: Gajula Sharvan’s Innovative Health Monitor
Gajula Sharvan, a freshman at NIAT, emerged as one of the leading victors in the Nosu AI Hackathon held on Devpost. Participants were tasked with utilizing Nebius Vision AI models to tackle practical issues. Outshining more than 1,472 contestants and 166 entries, Sharvan’s individual creation known as the Visionary Health Tracker won him four key accolades, most notably the prestigious Statsig Grand Prize worth approximately Rs. 1,40,000 in monetary rewards.
The application leverages live image recognition through a webcam to examine users’ meals, exercise routines, and wellness data. It provides smooth, tailored health advice. He mentions, “Integrating artificial intelligence into a web-based platform was new territory for me.” He continues, “Initially it posed quite a challenge, yet with support from mentors, I managed to overcome these obstacles.”
This project went beyond mere technical achievement; it offered an insight into the way NIAT’s students are taught to develop solutions rather than simply finish tasks.
Biz Brains at Work: Sachin Keerthi Vasu Converts Losses into Gains at BizHack
In another development, first-year student Sachin Keerthi Vasu made waves at the offline BizHack event held at T-Hub in Hyderabad. This hackathon, which involved a simulated business challenge, required students to rejuvenate an organization drowning in debts and financial losses. With more than 250 contestants representing over 25 institutions, the contest was highly competitive.
Even though Sachin was paired with unfamiliar teammates chosen by the event’s organizers, he took charge as the team leader. Leveraging his background as a startup entrepreneur, he implemented decisive strategies: boosting brand presence, introducing automation for lower-income groups, and revamping price structures. Under his guidance, they emerged victorious, securing first place along with a cash reward of Rs. 1,00,000. They were also introduced to Jayesh Ranjan, who serves as the CEO of the SPEED initiative in an acting capacity as Special Chief Secretary overseeing various departments including youth advancement, tourism, and culture.
Reflecting on this achievement, Sachin said, “It feels almost predestined.” He added, “Winning has boosted my belief that I am destined for greater accomplishments, and I’m only at the beginning of what lies ahead.”
Beyond the Victories: Key Highlights of NIAT’s Successes
The most striking aspect isn’t merely the students’ victories; it’s the ecosystem that facilitated them.
Program That Adapts to the Market Trends
At NIAT, the curriculum is not rigid; it undergoes revisions each semester to align with the dynamic job market demands of the technology sector. This ensures that what students study today reflects current employer needs for the future. As such, the focus shifts away from obsolete concepts towards practical experiences encompassing areas like artificial intelligence implementation and strategic business practices.
Faculty With Industry Credibility
The instructional team at NIAT comprises professionals with experience in developing and releasing actual products, rather than solely relying on textbook teachings. Learners benefit from insights provided by former founders, seasoned product managers, and engineers who share their firsthand knowledge gained from working in both startup environments and large corporations.
Top Mentors from Major Tech Giants
Students can tap into an extensive network of advisors from leading international firms such as Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Google. Instead of merely conducting question-and-answer sessions, these mentors assist learners with various aspects including tackling technical challenges and making professional choices.
Success Mentors Who Aid the Complete Student
At NIAT, achieving high grades is not the sole measure of success. The institution provides each student with dedicated internal success coaches—qualified experts who act as guides for both well-being and personal development. These coaches assist learners in handling pressure, maintaining concentration, and coping with the various emotional challenges encountered during their rigorous educational path.
A Culture of Building
Starting from day one, students are motivated to construct, experiment with, and deploy their projects. Regardless of whether it’s a hackathon entry, an impromptu weekend creation, or a budding business concept, NIAT equips them with both the necessary environment and the right attitude to transform their interests into tangible models and channel their enthusiasm into practical action.
More Than Just a Victory: An Indication of Things to Come
These successes at hackathons represent more than just individual accomplishments; they serve as markers for a fresh wave of talent—individuals who are highly motivated, knowledgeable about technological infrastructures, and closely attuned to future global requirements.
And what about NIAT? It’s more than just instructing students on thriving in that world; it involves designing environments where they can take charge and lead it.
