The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has initiated the construction of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors’ (GhIS) Centre of Excellence in Accra by performing the traditional sod-cutting ceremony.
This occasion marks a major step toward achieving GIS’s longstanding aim of creating top-tier facilities for professional growth, research, and consulting services.
During his speech, Mr. Agbodza praised the Ghana Institution of Surveyors for their ongoing dedication to improving cost efficiency in government-funded construction initiatives.
He highlighted the significance of the GhIS in backing governmental programs, particularly the ‘Big Push’ initiative, via expert guidance, project evaluations, and technical knowledge.
The minister further emphasized the government’s commitment to finishing suspended projects and tackling critical infrastructure requirements throughout the nation.
The Center of Excellence is designed to be a multifaceted center that will include facilities for alternate dispute resolution (ADR), cost efficiency evaluations, project audits, and data handling processes.
This initiative will offer a cooperative space where experts from the construction industry and academics can collaborate on knowledge exchange, skill development, and creative problem-solving.
President GhIS Kofi Obeng-Ayirebi highlighted the crucial role that the Center of Excellence will play in fostering excellence and professionalism within the fields of surveying and construction.
He reaffirmed his organization’s dedication to significantly supporting national progress via strengthening capabilities and advocating for effective policies.
The event saw the presence of important parties like officials from the Ministry of Finance, members of the judicial system, and counterparts from various professional organizations including the Ghana Institute of Architects, Ghana Institute of Planners, and Ghana Institution of Engineers.
Their attendance highlighted a shared approval of the Centre of Excellence’s mission and goals.
Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra, who serves as the board chairman for GETFUND and has a background as a trained surveyor, also attended the ceremony.
The construction activities at the GhIS Centre of Excellence are anticipated to begin fully very soon.
