Aliko Dangote, who serves as both the Chairman of the Dangote Group and the Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology located in Wudil, Kano State, has initiated a five-year development plan for the institution, backed by an initial funding of 15 billion Nigerian naira.
Dangote made this announcement soon after he was inaugurated for the second time as the Chancellor of the University during the institution’s 5th joint Convocation ceremony, which took place on Saturday in Wudil.
He mentioned that the resources, to be administered via his Foundation, will be utilized for building tambahandormitories for students, establishing a state-of-the-art engineering lab, setting up an advanced computer lab equipped with round-the-clock internet access, and constructing a suitable facility for the Senate.
He said in addition, the Dangote Foundation would give automatic employment to the best graduating students in his various companies across the country.
During his address, University Vice Chancellor Professor Musa Yakasai mentioned that more than 18,000 students are receiving degrees across different fields of study, representing seven merged graduating classes.
He mentioned that out of the total, 2,950 postgraduates will be awarded their degrees and diplomas.
Additionally, the Visitor to the university and State Governor, Abba Yusuf, committed to completing all current initiatives undertaken by the state government as swiftly as possible.
The governor stated, ‘We are dedicated to finishing all the projects started by the former administration to boost the progress and expansion of our organization.’
Five notable Nigerians who excelled in different fields of human achievement were awarded honorary doctorates (Honoris Causa) altogether.
The recipients comprised Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, Dr. Ahmed Adeniyi Raji, SAN, Prince Arthur Eze, and Alhaji Mustapha Ado Muhammad.
During his remarks on behalf of the other recipients, Senator Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the university administration for deeming them deserving of this honor.
He praised the graduating students and encouraged them to serve as excellent representatives of the university at all times, regardless of their location.
