Mombasa – A local landlord in Likoni has won admiration for her extraordinary gesture of compassion and humanity after one of her renters passed away unexpectedly.

Irene Wa Davey received acclaim from fellow residents when she demonstrated compassion toward the bereaved family of her deceased tenant.

Why Irene waived Diana’s rent

The man, husband to Diana Mbogua, passed away after a short illness, leaving behind his widow and three young daughters aged 14, 12, and 9 months.

Following the tragedy, Irene personally reached out to the widow and informed her that she would not be required to pay rent until she had regained financial stability.

Touched by her kindness, Diana, who moved to a rural area with her kids, has been finding it difficult to manage financially.

Her oldest daughter had only recently enrolled at Ushindi Junior Secondary School in Likoni when the disaster occurred.

Irene similarly forgave another tenant’s rental payment.

Once the attempts to relocate the girl didn’t work out, the school’s principal proposed keeping her enrolled and pledged to assist with her educational expenses.

Jenipher Indeche, a long-time friend of the bereaved family and the person who introduced them to the landlady, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Irene.

“My heart overflowed with happiness. Irene isn’t merely a landlord; she acts like a guardian angel for numerous people. Throughout the challenging days of the pandemic, when I lost my job, she forgave me my rent. She consistently offers assistance wherever the need is real,” Jenipher shared.
