Hyderabad (Telangana), India — On May 10, ANI reported that AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi strongly criticized the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approving a $1 billion loan to Pakistan, highlighting concerns over the country’s history of supporting terrorism.
Regarding the recently approved $1 billion IMF loan to Pakistan, Owaisi referred to it as “a bailout for a militant organization.” He cautioned that these funds would not benefit the Pakistani populace but rather exacerbate cross-border terrorist activities targeting India.
Owaisi condemned the international community’s lack of response, especially from countries like the United States, Germany, and Canada, stating, “While the Western nations are aware that Pakistan supports terrorism, they remain silent about it. This $1 billion will not be used for reducing poverty, combating polio, or promoting gender empowerment; instead, it will be directed towards unsettling India.”
Owaisi said, “Pakistan is a failed state, and the world must wake up to the danger it poses. Its nuclear arsenal must be disarmed–these weapons are a threat to all of
humanity
.”
Speaking to ANI, Owaisi said, “Osama Bin Laden had been found taking shelter in a military area, and he was given support, all the support by the military established in Pakistan. Pakistan is a failed state. It is high time that not only the Western world but every nation in the world should rise and ensure that the nuclear bombs that Pakistan possesses should be disarmed. They are a threat to the entire humankind. They have been using terrorism to destabilise India.”
Owaisi stated that steps should be taken to make sure Pakistan gets “graylisted” by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international body aimed at fighting terrorism funding.
“India experienced the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. Following these events, Indian investigation authorities traveled to Pakistan with substantial evidence implicating Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for their role and alleging training provided by the Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) along with Pakistani military forces. Despite presenting this information, further action wasn’t taken until after Pakistan was included in the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list; subsequently, legal proceedings began moving forward. It appears as though Pakistan is determined to undermine a nation with a populace exceeding 1.3 billion people—considering India now ranks among the top five economies globally, one must question whether other nations will simply stand idly by,” according to Owaisi.
The leader of AIMIM also strongly criticized the International Monetary Fund’s agreement to provide a $1 billion loan to Pakistan, describing it as “highly regrettable.”
The sanctioning of a $1 billion loan from the IMF is deeply regrettable. In essence, one might say it’s a funding package for a militant group. The silence maintained by the United States, Germany, and Canada—countries well aware that Pakistan supports and finances terrorism aimed at India—is particularly distressing. Let me assure you; these funds won’t go toward reducing poverty, lowering polio incidence in Pakistan, advancing women’s rights, or improving educational opportunities. Instead, they will solely support terrorist operations targeting India. This situation is truly disheartening.
On Friday, the IMF gave approval for the initial assessment of Pakistan’s economic reform program as part of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). This approval allows for a payment of roughly $1 billion.
India strongly resisted offering financial assistance to a nation that persists in sponsoring cross-border terror, cautioning that this kind of backing poses significant reputation risks for worldwide organizations and goes against established international standards.
On X, the IMF posted, “The IMF Board has approved the initial assessment of Pakistan’s economic reform plan under the EFF, allowing for a payment of approximately $1 billion. This reflects robust execution of the program, aiding ongoing economic recuperation.”
“India refrained from participating in the recent IMF vote to approve a loan for Pakistan. This was not because they lacked objections, but because IMF regulations do not allow members to cast an official ‘no’ vote,” the sources further explained.
In the meantime, according to senior government officials, India has declared that any subsequent terrorist action will be regarded as an “act of war” against the country and will be dealt with accordingly. (ANI)
