Paul Kanneh Wrotto Unveils State-of-the-Art Health Center in Logan Town: An International Edition Exclusive (English)

In a bid to improve access to quality healthcare, Paul Kanneh Wrotto, a longtime resident of Logan Town, on Saturday dedicated the Building Youth Around the World Medical Center–a state-of-the-art facility aimed at addressing critical health needs in the Jacket community and neighboring areas.

The dedication ceremony, held on May 3 in Bushrod Island’s Jacket community, brought together lawmakers, local officials, and residents of Montserrado County Electoral District 15.

During his speech, Wrotto reflected on the individual and collective obstacles he encountered during the development of the facility, such as opposition from residents and allegations of participating in cult activities.

“At times, this filled me with sadness, and I longed to weep—but such is life,” he remarked. “Those whom you have supported when they were at their lowest might later betray you without trying to understand.”

Wrotto mentioned that the initiative stemmed from a discussion in November 2023 with a colleague based in Ghana, who was at first doubtful about Liberia. This acquaintance eventually joined forces with Wrotto to facilitate essential operations for over 30 youngsters within their locality. According to Wrotto, the expenses associated with these medical interventions motivated them to establish an enduring healthcare center.

“He told me to find a piece of land to purchase–and this very location, once a swampland and dumpsite, was chosen,” Wrotto said. “Even while construction was underway, residents continued dumping trash on the site.”

Wrotto said the center was financed with support from Liberians at home and abroad, as well as loans from local commercial banks. He emphasized that the clinic is a non-religious, community-driven initiative.

“I want to make it clear that this center is not owned by any church, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to which I belong,” he said. “We hired medical professionals based on merit, regardless of their faith background.”

Although he was not a healthcare provider, Wrotto attributed the success of setting up the center to his experience in human resources and the knowledge of the contractors and medical staff involved.

Request for Assistance and Durability

Wrotto urged both residents and healthcare professionals to evaluate the clinic and offer suggestions to enhance its offerings. Additionally, he sought collaborations with regional and global entities to furnish medicines and medical devices.

“To function efficiently, this clinic requires medication supplies every day,” he stated. “We ask for your support. This facility belongs to you all. It’s essential to retain the staff members we’ve employed so they can continue serving you.”

He pledged to ensure services remain budget-friendly while upholding superior quality of care.

Representative’s Office Pledges Ongoing Support

David Kansuah, who speaks on behalf of District 15 Representative Abu Bana Kamara Sr.’s office, praised Wrotto’s effort and disclosed intentions to establish another public health center within the area.

I believe the Jacket Community is really fortunate,” remarked Kansuah. “In the near future, we will turn to Jacket for our medical requirements.

He vowed that the legislator would fully back the sustainability of the new facility.

Community Welcomes the Initiative

The local community applauded the launch of the new clinic, hailing it as an essential advancement for their health needs.

One local commented, ‘Brother, this is what we refer to as a rescue mission.’ They added, ‘You’re here to save lives and look after our children. We fully back you.’
