The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has scored Yaba College of Technology high in quality project execution, transparency and value driven use of funds allocated to it and also commissioned a Workplace Learning Hub of the institution at Ikeja Computer Village.

A member of the TETFund Board of Trustees, Southwest geopolitical zone, Honourable Sunday Adepoju gave the applause while addressing the management of the College after touring the 2020 to 2023 TETFund projects in a familiarization visit to the institution.

He declared, “Having gone round the College to inspect the TETFund projects, I am highly impressed of what I saw. My fear of noting abandoned projects was allayed as there was none which shows that the College has not given the contractors handling the projects any hitch”.

Addressing the media, Honourable Sunday Adepoju commended the College for effectively utilizing TETFund allocations to drive infrastructural and academic development, stating that the investment in the college is a demonstration of theoretical integration.

The College, he said, integrated both theoretical and practical knowledge at teaching and learning thereby blocking any loopholes of imparting knowledge in the training of Nigerian youths.

The BoT member implored tertiary institutions benefiting from the Trust Fund to ensure that the funds are well utilized and project built with funds are properly maintained.

He stressed that it is the responsibility of the management, staff and students to make judicious use of TETFund properties so that the structures will be beneficial to the upcoming generation.

He also called for commercialization of research outputs, imploring that tax payer funded research should lead to visible development, saying it would be of no essence to carryout research and put them on shelves rather than putting them on the public space for investors to turn quality research into products.

In his welcoming speech, College Rector Engr Dr. Ibraheem conveyed the college’s appreciation to TETFund, NBTE, and the Ministry of Education for their consistent backing and contributions to the institution. He highlighted that the inauguration of the new workplace learning center underscores the positive outcomes achieved through joint initiatives between academic entities and governmental organizations in fostering national progress.

He stated that Yaba College of Technology “is delighted to lead in skill enhancement efforts, and this center will have a crucial part in providing our students with the necessary knowledge and proficiency to thrive in the IT industry.”

Our collaboration with the Computer Village community will establish a forum for exchanging knowledge, enhancing skills, and fostering innovation.

As he stated, “The Workplace Learning Hub will offer training programs customized to fulfill the requirements of the industry, guaranteeing that our students are prepared for employment and capable of addressing practical challenges.”

We think this program will boost both the job prospects of our graduates and support the economic expansion and progress in Nigeria.

During a media interview, Dr. Abdul mentioned that these facilities would assist in producing well-prepared graduates for the future by integrating practical digital competencies with robust theoretical knowledge. The aim is to ensure that young Nigerians gain digital empowerment.
