Bill Gates Pledges KSh 13.8 Trillion to Foundation, Eyeing Full Exit in Two Decades

  • Bill Gates is set to turn 70 this year and is implementing significant alterations regarding his wealth and foundation.

  • The wealthy tycoon stated that he plans to close his Gates Foundation two decades from now after giving away 99 percent of his fortune.

  • He acknowledged that his charitable efforts have saved lives but expressed regret over Donald Trump’s reductions which could undo those gains and impact worldwide health.

The American businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates intends to donate 99 percent of his wealth by the year 2045, with these funds going towards charitable causes.

The founder of Microsoft stated during an interview with CBS Mornings that he would be donating $107 billion (more than KSh 13.8 trillion) to his Gates Foundation.

Why Bill Gates Is Distributing His Wealth

According to him, he is also planning to shut down the foundation in 20 years, adding that he will have made more impact by then.

The billionaire further mentioned that his foundation will undergo transformations leading to its closure by 2045.

“By choosing to allocate all this funding over the next two decades, we can accomplish significantly more. Over the coming twenty years, I plan to donate my entire fortune via the Gates Foundation. My hope is that I’ll still be around to see us complete these efforts, but I intend to set aside some funds so I can purchase hamburgers whenever I desire,” he stated.

Effect of Donald Trump’s reductions on worldwide healthcare

His investments in cutting-edge technologies have contributed to global reductions in child and maternal mortality within the healthcare industry.

Vaccines would undoubtedly sit atop my greatest achievements list. By the turn of the century, children weren’t receiving vaccinations for diseases like diabetes, diarrhea, and pneumonia, but this has since saved millions of lives.

Gates mentioned that he discussed with President Donald Trump the potential reduction of funds allocated for global health and the consequences this could entail.

“If the cuts are not revoked, the fatalities will surpass 6 million. Thus, rather than decreasing, it would increase,” he added.

Indeed, all of this is false; nobody thinks that the wealthy genuinely care for average folks.

Instead of rebuilding certain American communities, why not let those who are less fortunate share more fully in your wealth?

Gates expands in Nairobi

In 2024, the philanthropic organization of billionaire Bill and his former spouse extended its reach into Nairobi with the aim of enhancing healthcare, farming practices, and information and communication technology sectors.

Prime CS Musalia Mudavady stated that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has become one of many international organizations headquartered in Nairobi which focus on sectors consistent with Kenya’s developmental objectives.

Following this, the Kenyan government awarded the Gates Foundation expats specific diplomatic privileges and immunity.

However, circumstances shifted in 2025 when the Foundation declared their withdrawal from certain initiatives in Kenya.
