Gujarat CM Greenlights $300M Development Project Under SJMMSVY

Has approved development projects valued at Rs 2,204.85 crore under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY) in principle. The aim of this program is to achieve the vision of “Prosperity and Good Living” via the structured growth of towns and urban regions as outlined in the Urban Development Agenda for 2025.

Based on the submissions made by the relevant Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Urban Development Authorities—who requested funding for projects tailored to meet local developmental requirements—the Chief Minister has sanctioned the disbursement of these funds following approvals obtained during their individual general assemblies.

This fiscal year, the Urban Development Department’s budget includes an allocation of Rs 30,325 crore from the Chief Minister, marking a 40 percent rise compared to last year’s funding during the period of 2024-25. In order to create people-focused urban areas, the Chief Minister has sanctioned financial resources for different aspects of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana aimed at targeted improvements based on each city’s particular needs.

As part of the Mukhyamantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana, the Chief Minister has sanctioned work amounting to Rs 597.73 crores for building roads within cities. These developmental initiatives include approvals totaling Rs 464.92 crores for various projects under the Surat Municipal Corporation jurisdiction. This encompasses plans for 857 roadways aimed at tasks such as resurfacing, expanding current thoroughfares, constructing brand-new streets, and enhancing concrete-paved routes.

The Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation has been initially approved for Rs 68 crores to undertake 20 road projects, which include four-lane roads, reinforced cement concrete (RCC) pavements, and surface treatments with metal slurries. Meanwhile, the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has secured preliminary sanction worth Rs 43.81 crores for 18 initiatives focused on cement-concrete (CC) roadway construction.

The Chief Minister has additionally allotted Rs 21 crore to the recently established Mehsana Municipal Corporation for building new roads, underpasses, access routes, among others.

As per SJMMSVY, the Chief Minister has sanctioned an aggregate sum of Rs 1,249.38 crores for initiatives like underground drainage systems, stormwater pipelines, parks, libraries, water recharge structures, urban enhancement programs, distinctive identification schemes, and community facility developments within towns and metropolitan areas. Preliminary endorsement has been provided for recently established Municipal Corporations; specifically, Rs 200.35 crores have been earmarked for Porbandar, Rs 4 crores for Anand, and Rs 256 crores for Mehsana. Additionally, allocations include Rs 451 crores for Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 317 crores for Jamnagar, and Rs 171 crores for Surat Municipal Corporation.

The Chief Minister has preliminarily approved projects totaling Rs 170.08 crores aimed at enhancing infrastructure such as roads, underground drainage systems, box drains, and asphalt pavements for developing peripheral areas. These initiatives include funding allocations: Rs 71 crores for the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 66.91 crores for the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 22.50 crores for the Mehsana Municipal Corporation, Rs 7.99 crores for the Godhra Municipality, and Rs 1.68 crores for Gandevi. Additionally, the Chief Minister sanctioned expenditures amounting to Rs 20.19 crores for three Urban Area Development Authorities focused on constructing protective walls along canals, building new roads like DP Road, and erecting libraries among others.

The Chief Minister has sanctioned projects amounting to Rs 11.62 crore for the Surat Urban Development Authority, Rs 1.40 crore for the Bhavnagar Urban Development Authority, and Rs 7.17 crore for the Rajkot Urban Development Authority.

In the section concerning community involvement within the SJMMSVY project, the Chief Minister has sanctioned financial support amounting to Rs 2.49 crores for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation to undertake paving stone and sewage line projects. Additionally, Rs 2.29 crores have been allocated to Kadi Municipality and Rs 0.83 crores to another entity for similar initiatives.

The Municipal Corporation received Rs 15.96 crore, Rs 3.37 crore was allocated to the Anand Municipal Corporation, and Rs 0.24 crore was designated for the Palanpur Municipality.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 7.91 crore for the Ankleshwar Municipality to support distinctive initiatives such as a sports complex and a garden for senior citizens.
