2027: Idris’ Rising Star Threatens Established Power Brokers in Kebbi-Zuru

The growing political consciousness amongst Nigerians and their recognition of the entitlement to benefits from democratic governance as delivered by elected officials seem to be disconcerting certain aspiring politicians.

As the race toward the 2027 election gains speed, he suggests that voters are starting to accept the fact that the age of political bosses and ineffective practices no longer dictates who they choose as their leaders.

He stated that based on all signs, the focus should be on measurable evidence of altruism, efficiency, and successful implementation of significant development initiatives and programs.

An exemplary case of this obvious shift in public attitude and total breakaway from the earlier deceptive period of enforcement can be observed in Kebbi State as part of the evolving democratic progress and increasing political consciousness.

Prior to entering the realm of party politics, Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu worked as a professional educator and attained the pinnacle of leadership within the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT). He later moved on to become part of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), serving successively as an elected National President and then as Deputy President.

In his time as a prominent figure in national labor unions, Nasir NUT, affectionately known back then, made significant positive impacts across various community sectors. He also played an essential role in repairing and maintaining educational facilities and ensuring that numerous schools received necessary learning and teaching resources.

When Governor Nasir eventually entered politics at the request of many supporters, he aligned himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC). By then, his reputation was well-established, especially within the Gwandu Emirate region.

His long history of charitable acts has earned him widespread goodwill, prayers, and public praise, which significantly contributed to his selection as the gubernatorial nominee for the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 elections. Despite the typical competitiveness among aspiring politicians, these factors played a crucial role in bolstering his candidacy.

God has bestowed upon him the wisdom to effectively bring together the political leaders from various factions within the APC in Kebbi State.

He deemed it valuable to engage various interest groups in the decision-making processes of his administration. This included participation from all levels of party members, traditional and religious figures, nonpartisan organizations, and community elders. Undoubtedly, this approach has significantly aided the effective execution of his development initiatives, earning recognition from those who benefited and leading to widespread publicity.

The bond he shares with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, rooted in mutual admiration and sincere dedication, has undoubtedly granted him entry into the Presidential Villa. This opportunity has led to beneficial outcomes for the socioeconomic and political progress of Kebbi State.

The amicable rapport between the two leaders led to several key decisions, including the approval to revoke the Koko-Zuru federal road contract, which had been neglected for over a decade but will now be undertaken by the Kebbi State government. Additionally, they approved projects such as reconstructing the Malando to Warra federal road, developing the Maga to Gamji federal road, and building the Natsini to Kangiwa to Kamba federal road. Furthermore, 250 kilometers out of the total 1,600 kilometers of the Ilela to Badagary Super Highway was allocated to Kebbi State. The leadership also emphasized that appointments within the Federal Government’s boards and commissions must not be monopolized moving forward, amongst other measures.

These various advantages, along with trust, complete assurance, and advantageous loyalty, have rendered Mr. Governor Nasir Idris a significant obstacle to the political aspirations of certain self-centered and ineffective politicians in 2027 and onward.

Hence, we conclude that these evident apprehensions do not justify the smear campaign characterized by fabricated lies, malicious accusations, and damaging critiques aimed at Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu across various platforms. Given Nigeria’s current phase of democratic growth and heightened political consciousness, especially within Kebbi State, it must be unequivocally acknowledged that Governor Nasir Idris’ allegiance to President Tinubu is unwavering. His dedication to maintaining APC’s cohesion among leaders and members nationwide stands firm as ever. As he stated emphatically, “No retreat, no surrender, or political opportunism.”
Governor Nasir urged those orchestrating these attacks along with their accomplices to reconsider their desperate and futile actions born out of disillusionment. He encouraged them to prepare themselves for future endeavors rather than conjuring up false conflicts; they should focus on being ready for what awaits after 2027.
