Experts Urge Sustainability: Protect Our Planet Earth

Stakeholders and advocates from environmental groups, through the initiatives of Climalearnation and Women in Mining Nigeria, have added their perspectives to address the issues confronting our ecosystem and planet.

During a recent online gathering titled ‘Our Power Our Planet,’ which was organized to mark the 2025 Global Earth Day Summit, participants and supporters voiced their messages about environmental activism and sustainable practices, echoing what Earth Day stands for.

As stated by the organizers, the core purpose of the event was to promote a more environmentally friendly future via a cooperative forum where various experts could come together to explore creative and sustainable strategies for tackling ecological issues and addressing planetary challenges, aligning with the worldwide theme of Earth Day.

Ruth Chigbo, who organized Climalearnation, emphasized that the gathering underscored everyone’s shared duty and highlighted how each individual can contribute to crafting a sustainable future.

She mentioned that their objective was to motivate, strengthen, and prompt everybody to play an active role in fostering a healthier, more resilient planet, thereby securing a positive heritage for future generations.

“At Climalearning, we feel that Earth isn’t merely a planet — it’s our common dwelling, a concept central to our ‘Our Strength Our World’ initiative,” she stated.

Peter Ayeni, who was invited as the guest speaker, articulated his thoughts and aspirations regarding a sustainable future, with particular emphasis on how environmental sustainability can be achieved via technological advancements and innovative approaches.

Joshua Ichor centered his presentation around environmental accountability with an emphasis on promoting measures to secure clean drinking water throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Conversely, Dr. Janet Adeyemi addressed the ongoing necessity of advocating for climate change initiatives.

Igede Felix, Areola Joshua, and Abdurrahman Akesire presented papers and lent their knowledge during the discussions. Brandon Reynolds, Praneetha Monipi, Chinaza Arukwe-Moses, Ikani Israel, and Victor Chukwuemeka showcased their ideas and project contributions related to the event’s central theme.

Tolulope Olatunji, with her musical act, underscored for the audience the ability of creative expression to foster ecological awareness.

The significant contribution to the discussion was made by the jurors Isah Buny Amin, Love Olowu, Chris Nwachukwu, and Adebayo Olaniyi, with moderation from Joy Kalu-Johnson.

The organizers of the event emphasized that every person living on Earth needs to take practical measures to help create a healthier planet. They also noted that all these efforts should result in specific actions ensuring a sustainable future for everyone.

During the event, awards were presented to youths addressing sustainability issues. Theophilus Venn secured the top spot, Edesiri Ovuodeforen took second place, and John Tosin Adekunle claimed third. Additionally, a quiz involving Akesire Abdurrahmon was conducted.
