The founder of the Ghana Foundation for Sickle Cell Action, Victoria Awo Twumasi, received the Inspirational Leadership Award of the Year at the first-ever Ghana Executive Awards in 2025.
This significant recognition highlights her outstanding leadership in advocating for early intervention in Sickle Cell Disease and her efforts in guiding women and young people in health-related and socioeconomic programs.
This accolade underscores her remarkable commitment to patient advocacy for those battling Sickle Cell Disease, as well as her efforts within the disabled community. She is also highly esteemed for promoting superior healthcare standards across the nation.
The event took place at Ghana’s top-tier Five-Star hotel, Labadi Beach Hotel, and was organized by Globe Productions. This esteemed program aims to acknowledge and honor the exceptional accomplishments of departmental heads and their teams from different sectors throughout Ghana.
The purpose of this awards program is to showcase outstanding achievements in leadership, innovation, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness. It encourages continuous enhancement and healthy rivalry amongst enterprises within the nation, promoting a culture of progress and superior performance.
During an interview, Victoria Awo Twumasi conveyed deep appreciation to God Almighty for His support and blessings. “I am grateful to my mentor, the late Professor Kwaku Ohene-Frempong, along with his family; to the various patient advocacy groups who have joined forces with us; and to all those fighting within the Sickle Cell Community. We remain dedicated to advancing healthcare solutions that improve the lives of people affected by Sickle Cell Disease.”
As she sees it, the trophy represents a fresh commitment and increased drive to strive even more diligently towards a better tomorrow.
“I’m incredibly thrilled about this victory. It fills me with deep honor to receive such a significant accomplishment. My team and I began at an modest starting point, aiming to expand upon the groundwork laid by my mentor, the late Professor Kwaku Ohene-Frempong. However, today, we find ourselves immensely gratified after achieving remarkable success over these years. This accolade goes out to every individual within the sickle cell disease community contributing positively, my dedicated team, the supporting board members of the Ghana Foundation for Sickle Gene Action, our advisory council, all the fighters, and our international collaborators,” she stated.
