Techiman, (Bono East), May 23, GNA – In an effort to ensure compliance with regulations, the Bono East office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has created a special team tasked with preventing health care facilities from charging illicit co-payment amounts to individuals enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

On May 23rd, Techiman, (Bono East), GNA reported that the Bono East division of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) initiated a dedicated enforcement group focused on deterring medical service suppliers from levying unlawful co-payment demands upon recipients of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
As stated by Mr. Kingsford Gyamfi Opoku, the Bono East Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the organization remains dedicated to striving diligently towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Consequently, they will address the issues currently affecting the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the region with renewed vigor.
During an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman, Mr. Opoku stated that with the establishment of the task force, the concerns related to co-payments would be managed effectively, ensuring that both beneficiaries and particularly the vulnerable members of society could fully benefit from the program.
Mr. Opoku stated that the Authority will shortly carry out an initiative at public locations such as bus terminals and marketplaces to update memberships and enroll individuals who were unable to go to their offices. He added that they also plan to step up community awareness efforts to boost membership numbers.
“In accordance with the CEO’s vision, the organization will proceed with awareness campaigns to help individuals comprehend the principles of the NHIS, renew their memberships, and assist in enrolling new members,” he said.
Mr. Opoku encouraged participants in the program to utilize the “My NHIS App” along with the shortcode (*929#) for renewing their membership.
