Sk Group Chair Apologizes For Telecom Data Breach

On May 7, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won issued an apology regarding a recent cyberattack on SK Telecom that resulted in the theft of customer USIM information. This was his initial public statement about the incident, which took place 19 days prior.

“I genuinely extend my apologies to all those who faced inconveniences because of this incident,” Chey stated during a press conference held at SK Telecom’s offices in Seoul.

Chelsey acknowledged that the firm’s reaction to the security incident was insufficient, describing it as “disappointing,” and vowed complete collaboration with regulatory bodies to ascertain the root cause and avoid additional harm to clients.

In order to tackle the problem, he unveiled his intention to create an Information Protection Innovation Committee, made up of outside specialists, aimed at bolstering the firm’s cyber safety protocols. “This initiative will maintain an unbiased viewpoint,” Chey stated, underlining that data protection would be accorded equal significance as national security.

Chey emphasized, “Customer trust forms the bedrock of SK Group.” He continued, “This situation demands that we reconsider what is genuinely important to our clients, and we will strive earnestly to regain their confidence.”
