Lagos Taps Automation To Boost Revenue And Stamp Out Tax Evasion

The Lagos State Government has made significant progress in updating its public financial systems by implementing an automated revenue collection platform.

The objective of this digital acara is to boost openness, reduce losses, and improve revenue gathering throughout different industries.

The updated system streamlines income streams, allowing for real-time tracking, easier transactions, and enhanced data handling.

This improvement aims to provide an enhanced user experience for both residents and businesses looking to obtain permits, make tax payments, or utilize various other governmental services.

Through digitalization of these procedures, Lagos aims to enhance transparency and speed up the verification of public finances.

On Thursday, Mrs. Adetutu Oluremi Ososanya, the Permanent Secretary of the Parastatals Monitoring Office, revealed this information during the 2025 Ministerial Press Conference held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Ososanya stated that embracing automation marks a transition towards complete e-governance and highlights the government’s dedication to updating public administration.

As Nigeria’s economic hub expands, she emphasized that these advancements are crucial for maintaining progress, financing infrastructure initiatives, and enhancing service provision.

She recognized the automated system as a strategic approach to combat ongoing tax avoidance, especially among those who shy away from meeting their tax responsibilities.

She mentioned that by developing an intuitive and smooth platform, the government intends to remove the drawbacks of manual systems which frequently deter people from willingly complying with regulations.

“This automated system is specifically designed to tackle tax evasion by simplifying compliance for members of the public who usually hesitate when it comes to paying their taxes,” she explained.

Ososanya also emphasized the importance of PARGEM, a strategic forum designed to oversee and harmonize the activities of organizations responsible for generating income.

PARGEM, she explained, is designed to achieve several key objectives: gathering first-hand data on revenue, measuring agency performance against set targets, evaluating the effectiveness of various strategies, and standardising collection methods.

It pinpoints agencies that aren’t meeting expectations and backs initiatives aimed at enhancing their operational effectiveness.

In addition to overseeing operations, Ososanya mentioned that PARGEM enhances transparency in governance and offers the governor precise, data-backed information for well-informed decisions.

Ososanya confirmed that through PARGEM and automation, Lagos is establishing a groundwork for a more transparent, efficient, and inclusive revenue system.
