The Invest in African Energy (IAE) 2025 Forum is delighted to share that Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy and Power Development, July Moyo, will be giving a keynote speech at the upcoming event in Paris next month. He will discuss the nation’s key energy goals and potential areas for investment. This appearance signifies an important step for Zimbabwe as it aims to revitalize its energy industry through increased involvement from the private sector.
Following Zimbabwe’s recent global initiatives to draw investments into its energy industry, Minister Moyo has joined these endeavors. These efforts include top-tier meetings designed to present a definitive plan for updating infrastructure and emphasize the critical importance of private funding in tackling gaps within the country’s facilities. Given that a significant segment of the populace remains without electrical access and consumption rates exceed production levels, Zimbabwe is proactively pursuing key alliances to provide dependable, eco-friendly, and varied sources of energy.

In order to achieve both immediate and future objectives, the government has adopted a two-pronged strategy: reviving coal-powered stations to ensure stable domestic electricity supplies in the short term, while also ramping up investments in sustainable energy sources. The focus lies heavily on solar and wind initiatives as key components of Zimbabwe’s energy plan, including the development of extensive solar facilities aimed at exporting power to surrounding nations. Collaborating with Zambia, Zimbabwe is investigating the potential for floating solar installations on Lake Kariba—a venture supported by a recently secured $250 million loan from the African Export-Import Bank intended to facilitate a 250 MW undertaking set for completion by mid-2026—indicative of their move towards cutting-edge, resilient infrastructural advancements.
At the event, Minister Moyo will highlight present investments available for projects in electricity production, grid expansion, and decentralized power systems. Additionally, he will discuss regulatory adjustments and policies aimed at drawing in private power providers and overseas investors. The minister’s attendance underscores Zimbabwe’s dedication to collaborating with worldwide entities to reshape its energy sector and ensure enduring energy stability. Furthermore, Zimbabwe’s involvement in the IAE 2025 aims to align with the conference’s wider objective of linking Africa’s energy sectors with global financial backers, project developers, and key collaborators.
