During an interview with Mary Harris from Slate, Katy Waldman from The New Yorker mentioned that things are not going smoothly at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Since Donald Trump assumed control of the esteemed Washington D.C. establishment.
In continuation of previous reports indicating that crowd-pleasing—and ticket-selling—performances such as the musical ”
Hamilton”
have skipped showing up because of the president’s interference, Waldman straightforwardly stated, ”
Everything is worse
.”
Waldman highlighted Richard Grenell, whom Trump appointed to lead his vision for the Kennedy Center, pointing out a subsequent series of employee dismissals. He remarked, “I believe the methods used to fire or lay off individuals have been rather callous. Additionally, many justifications provided seemed evasive,” further characterizing Grennell’s approach as “planting seeds, then aggressively attacking, attacking again.”

When questioned regarding the conflicting accounts circulating from the Trump administration concerning the art center,
has been a money loser,
She commented, “Based on my observations, it was thriving. The organization had funds and was functioning as intended before Trump’s era. This does not imply that it consistently generated more income from its programs than the expenses incurred. However, since its earnings came not only from ticket sales but also from contributions and donations, it remained financially solvent.”
Considering this, she noted that economic challenges lie ahead since ticket sales have plummeted.
“That’s a whole different part of the picture, which is no matter how well or badly the center was doing before Trump, the Trump anti-Midas touch is in operation here, and now everything is worse,” she explained before adding, “Not only are ticket sales down, but donations have been paused, artists are pulling out. All of the spigots for money have slowed or have been turned off.”
