The 2004-year group of Wesley Girls’ High School (WGHS) has launched a fundraising campaign to support its role as the lead host for the school’s 2026 Speech Day and a related legacy project.
The kickoff ceremony in Accra is designed to secure funding of at least GH¢2 million, with an ambitious target of up to GH¢4 million. This money will go towards enhancing the school’s facilities by building and equipping the first floor of a new Resource Center, as well as organizing a grand commemoration of the institution’s traditional yearly gathering.
One of the highlights of the event was the introduction of the group’s Patron, Araba Botchway (née Middleton-Mends), who graduated from WGHS in 1984 and currently serves as the president of her class.
Ms. Botchway, who additionally serves as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Ashesi University and oversees its Mastercard Scholars Program, received recognition for her extensive twenty-year history in education and youth leadership.
The unveiling came after weeks of excitement, fueled by a social media push that hinted at the identity of the Patron. The occasion attracted backing from numerous notable graduates and supporters of the institution, including:
- Nana Sarfo, the CEO of Bora Capital Advisors
- The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association is Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo.
- Freda Donkor, the CEO of FH Depot Company Ltd.,
- Yaw Ackonor, a petroleum engineer at GNPC,
- Hassan Tampuli, a Member of Parliament representing Gushiegu
- Dr. Richard Yeboah Asante, CEO of Afrah International Hospital and Watford Energy
- Dr. Esi Ansah, who serves as the Executive Director at Ashesi University’s Center for Leadership and is also part of the Constitutional Review Committee,
- Charles Owusu Ansah, CEO at Charusa Ltd.
Other WGHS year groups, including those from 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2014, showed their solidarity at the event, either in person or through donations. Representatives from sister schools such as Mfantsipim School, Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School and Achimota School also attended.
The 2026 event will feature the ‘Fantastic Fours,’ representing the 2004 cohort, stepping into the role of primary organizers. The theme for this occasion is set to be ‘
