The Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana (HCCGH) has conducted elections to choose an executive committee along with working groups for the tenure from 2025 to 2027.
The elections took place with the guidance of Dean Dimitrios Avraam from HCCGH, who is also the Belgian Consul, along with his deputy, Subhi Accad, who serves as the Mexican Consul.
Kwame Acquah, who serves as the Consul of Seychelles, will continue his role as Secretary for the year 2025. Meanwhile, Antonio Fernandes, the Consul of Portugal, has been appointed as Secretary from 2025 through 2028. Felix Gomis, representing Cabo Verde, was chosen as Treasurer. Additionally, Ashok Mohinani, serving as the Consul of Uruguay, and Nicholina Annor-Adjei, acting as the Consul of New Zealand, have both taken positions as Executive Directors.
The GoG and Local Authorities Relations Committee is chaired by Hilton John Mitchell, who serves as the Consul of Trinidad and Tobago. Thomas Okyere, serving as the Consul of Botswana, will oversee the Committee for Motivation and Coordination for Membership. Meanwhile, Nickie Akosa, the Consul of Sweden, will lead efforts related to Social Events and Community Projects.
During the gathering at the Mobility Showrooms in Accra, Mr. Avraam stated that the organization aims to enhance the significance of Honorary Consuls through fostering exceptional and dependable collaborations focused on boosting production capabilities and facilitating technology transfer to achieve the development objectives outlined by Ghana’s leadership.
The active participants in HCCGH significantly enhance bilateral trade and cultural exchanges through their presence in the nation, all while supporting local communities. For the year 2024, as part of their community service initiatives, HCCGH provided contributions to two organizations based in Accra.
Mr. Avraam expressed his best wishes to the newly-elected officers for their future undertakings, firmly convinced that the valuable experiences accumulated through the committed service of the members would elevate the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana even further, adhering to their motto.
The HCCGH boasts a membership of 32 out of the 41 consuls recognized in Ghana, encompassing nations across various continents. As part of this group, they hold membership within the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC), which includes 75 countries worldwide, including 13 African nations. Additionally, the organization holds non-governmental status at the United Nations under ECOSOC accreditation.
Professional Honorary Consuls and members of the corps, who typically serve as executives, business leaders, and frequent investors in sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, mining, energy, tourism & hospitality, commerce, oil & gas, construction & consulting services, real estate, transportation & logistics, media, and law, play a significant role in fostering economic development within Ghana.
