On May 10, Rabat – According to GNA/MAP reports, Rioux revealed this information at a press conference after he met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on Friday in Rabat.
The AFD CEO stated that his trip is a component of executing the Joint Declaration signed in October 2024 between King Mohammed VI of Morocco and French President Emmanuel Macron, which occurred during the latter’s state visit to the kingdom.
“You may remember that during that event, President Emmanuel Macron articulated France’s new stance on the Southern Provinces,” he recollected, noting that his present assignment is focused on the “swift implementation” of this strategic directive.
Regarding the expansion of AFD’s authority to encompass the Southern Provinces, Rioux mentioned that he plans to visit “Laayoune” tomorrow and “Dakhla” on Sunday and Monday, signifying a crucial phase in fulfilling the pledged commitments.
He was pleased that “the Southern Provinces serve as a crucial connection to Sub-Saharan Africa along the Atlantic coast,” highlighting that this area forms “an extremely significant operational framework” for the AFD group.
Rioux highlighted the consistency and strategic breadth of the collaboration between Morocco and France, noting that the kingdom continues to be the primary partner for the AFD Group. “The investments in Morocco exceed €3 billion, equivalent to over MAD 30 billion across 70 active initiatives,” he stated, further mentioning that at least 80 group members are actively engaged on-site in Morocco, underscoring its significant importance.
The visit from the head of AFD is a component of the “Enhanced Special Partnership” agreed upon by His Majesty the King and President Emmanuel Macron. This visit symbolizes their mutual commitment to deepen the extensive collaboration between both nations and to bolster the drive for comprehensive and sustainable growth across all parts of the kingdom.
