The contract for operating Scotland’s west coast ferry services going forward has been directly granted to the current publicly owned operator, CalMac Ferries Ltd.
The Scottish government stated that the focus of the service would shift towards a “public service model,” rather than operating on a commercial basis.
The contract for the Clyde and Hebridean Ferry Service (CHFS), which was set to end last September, has been prolonged by one year.
The ministers preferred a direct award, but they required additional time to make certain it wouldn’t face legal challenges.
