By Emmanuel Gamson

Sekondi (Western Region), April 7 – The Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), a consulting company, has transferred control of a site where work will begin on restoring a three-unit office building for the Western Regional branch of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi.

The project, which includes ancillary amenities such as restrooms, will be carried out by Brison Construction, financed through the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

The project is anticipated to start within two weeks and should conclude in approximately six months.

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Eric Annan, Regional Consultant at AESL, requested of the contractor that they adhere strictly to the specified requirements and fulfill their obligations within the timeframe outlined in the contractual agreements.

He stated: “The contractors are allotted 14 days to deploy their resources and relocate to the site to commence work on the project. We anticipate they will adhere to our requirements and deadlines.”

This isn’t your typical project with contractor delays since for this particular endeavor, we must provide at least weekly progress reports to the funding agency. As such, any postponement will result in additional charges from them.

Mrs Justina Paaga, the Western Regional Manager of the GNA, stated that upon completion, this initiative will offer a secure workspace for employees to fulfill their duties by delivering precise and impartial news reports aimed at fostering national development.

Therefore, she requested the contractor to ensure high-quality workmanship so as to assure the durability and longevity of the office once completed.

Ms. Ann Dodoo, who works as an operations staff member at Brison Construction, affirmed her team’s dedication to ensuring high-quality work and meeting the predetermined timelines.

The renovation of the office complex is part of the Post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Program (PSDPEP), a five-year project in which the GNA participates alongside other organizations as recipients.

The initiative is receiving funding amounting to $31.34 million through a grant facility. This sum includes $28.5 million provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and $2.8 million contributed by the government of Ghana.
