Right-wing supporter Kari Lake experienced mixed feelings after the 2024 elections; she felt let down since she didn’t win Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat against victorious candidate Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona). However, she found joy knowing that Donald Trump had won the presidency rather than Democratic contender Kamala Harris. Following this outcome, Trump extended an offer to Lake, naming her as the senior advisor for the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), overseeing entities like Voice of America (VOA), the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, and Radio Free Europe.
Now, as per Lake, VOA is
collaborating with One America News (OAN)
—a far-right cable network that, similar to Newsmax, takes pride in positioning itself further right than Fox News and views itself as even more supportive of Trump compared to those stations.
OAN has gained notoriety for endorsing conspiracy theories. Following Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential race against Democrat Joe Biden, OAN propagated the unfounded and repeatedly refuted assertion that the election had been unlawfully taken from him.

Statement published on X, previously known as Twitter
On Tuesday, May 6, Lake stated, “The United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) is pleased to announce a collaboration with One America News Network (OAN) aimed at supplying news feed services to USAGM networks such as the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB), Radio Martí, and Voice of America (VOA). … This initiative brings significant advantages to the American taxpayers, who exclusively fund the operations of USAGM’s news platforms focused solely on reaching global viewers.”
Lake stated, “As the Senior Advisor for USAGM, I do not oversee the editorial aspects of VOA and OCB programming. However, I can make sure these platforms receive trustworthy and credible resources to assist them in developing their reports and news segments.”
Lake’s announcement is receiving a lot of reactions on X.

Extremely harsh. The Voice of America’s audience reaches approximately 330 million individuals weekly, which is quite remarkable. However, outsourcing their content to One America Network with support from Kari Lake makes for a difficult pill to digest. I suggest watching the 60 Minutes segment about VOA (found on YouTube) if you’re not familiar with it.

Kari Lake’s decision to turn Voice of America into a platform for pro-Trump propaganda by incorporating OAN content is utterly absurd. The VOA was established to showcase American values internationally—not to spread far-right misinformation. This kind of action undermines democratic institutions from within. It’s a horrific step taken by an appalling individual.
