President Orders Prosecution of Lalu Prasad Yadav in Land-For-Job Money Laundering Scandal

New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu has approved the authorization for prosecuting RJD leader and ex-Railway Minister.

In relation to the suspected money-laundering case involving Land-for-Jobs within Indian Railways, top sources reported this on Thursday.

The President has approved the permission as per Section 197(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (currently Section 218 of the Indian Legal System Act, 2023).

The Enforcement Directorate (
ED
) launched its inquiry under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following an initial report (FIR) submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The FIR contends that

, during his tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, engaged in corrupt practices by appointing Group D substitutes in exchange for land parcels. These properties were allegedly transferred by job aspirants or their families and later registered in the names of Lalu Yadav’s family members, either directly or indirectly.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), candidates or their relatives were instructed to hand over land as a bribe to secure positions within the Indian Railways. This land was either directly or indirectly registered under the names of the families involved.

The CBI has additionally submitted three charge sheets along with supplementary ones in this case.

It is worth noting that the
ED
submitted its Prosecution Complaint (PC) on January 8, 2024, as per the regulations set forth in the PMLA, 2002, against Amit Katnal and his family members.

namely Rabri Devi, Misha Bharti, and Hema Yadav, along with the two related firms A K Infosystems Private Limited and A B Exports Pvt Ltd, appeared before the Special Court (PMLA) in New Delhi regarding this case.

Additionally, an extra indictment has been filed against
Lalu Prasad Yadav
, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, and others were also submitted to the Special Court on August 6, 2024. The court took notice of the aforementioned prosecution complaints against them.
