Okowa Dismisses ₦500bn Refund Rumour, Oborevwori Meets Tinubu

The former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has refuted allegations that he covertly returned more than ₦500 billion to the state government to avoid being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The claim circulating inDelta indicated that the action was intended to provide political protection and avoid legal issues. Nevertheless, Okowa, via his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olise Ifeajirika, dismissed these speculations as baseless and false.

“I haven’t said that my boss, Okowa, returned such funds. The EFCC has every right to carry out their duties,” Ifeajirika declared.

He received an invitation and was presented with various documents, to which he replied appropriately. The EFCC has been making trips to Delta State and summoning individuals for interviews. It appears that the inquiry is not yet complete. Refunds or legal actions could only be considered once the probe concludes and sufficient evidence is gathered.

“He added that there is no validity to assertions about refunding money to the Delta State Government or the EFCC.”

Later, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who succeeded Okowa, visited President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa. This was his inaugural trip since he switched from the PDP to the APC in April. His move, along with several key state officials, represented a significant realignment in Delta State’s politics.
