Malaysian car brand Proton returns to Singapore with EV estimated at $134,000

After a ten-year hiatus, Malaysia’s state-owned automobile manufacturer Proton is returning to Singapore with its inaugural electric vehicle, expected to have a starting price of approximately S$174,000 (US$134,000).

There are two versions available: Prime and Premium. Both include a top-notch 12-in-1 electric propulsion system along with an Aegis short blade battery.

Proton has announced that the car will be released in Singapore as part of a limited Founders Edition, aligning with the country’s efforts towards more sustainable transportation options.

has been rising steadily, with market share growing from 12% in 2022 to 18% in 2023 and expected to hit 55% by 2027.

The e.MAS 7 might hit Singapore dealerships as soon as this August, reports a local news website.

Vincar, the local dealership appointed as Proton’s official distributor, plans to launch a flagship showroom in the Leng Kee automotive district.

Although Proton hasn’t officially disclosed pricing for Singapore yet, the car news site Paul Tan projected that the e.MAS 7 might begin at approximately S$174,000.

In Malaysia, the model starts at RM105,800 (approximately US$32,400) for the Prime version and goes up to RM119,800 for the Premium edition. During the initial four months of 2025, it claimed the title as the nation’s top-selling electric vehicle.

Proton cars were last available for sale in Singapore in 2014 via its branch until the Chinese car manufacturer Geely took a stake in the firm and overhauled the brand’s range of products, as reported.
