Dubai: The Key to Africa’s Global Business Expansion

As Africa’s economic influence continues to rise, Dubai is increasingly recognised as a pivotal partner in the continent’s global trade ambitions.

Dubai offers more than just a geographical link to key international markets; its dynamic ecosystem empowers African businesses to amplify their reach and impact on a global scale.

Dubai’s attraction for African businesses lies in its unique blend of world-class infrastructure, business-friendly regulations, and exceptional connectivity.

Strategically positioned at the crossroads of East and West, the emirate offers unparalleled access to regional and international markets across Asia, Europe, and beyond. This advantageous position enables Dubai to function as a launchpad for African companies seeking to expand their footprint and tap into new opportunities.

“Dubai recognises the immense potential of African businesses and the vital role they play in the global economy,” says H.E. Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers.

“We are committed to strengthening the connections between our business communities and providing African companies with the resources and support they need to ensure their successful expansion from Dubai to the world.”

In addition to the benefits of its favourable geographic location, Dubai has cultivated a business-focused culture with streamlined processes and a supportive regulatory environment. The government’s proactive implementation of policies designed to ensure economic stability and attract foreign investment has cemented the emirate’s reputation as an attractive business destination.

The presence of numerous sector-specific free zones further enhances Dubai’s appeal for African businesses. These offer access to specialised infrastructure, attractive incentives, and simplified business procedures, and cater to a broad range of industries including technology, finance, logistics, media, and healthcare.

Dubai boasts a strong infrastructure featuring contemporary airports, seaports, and logistics hubs, which are smoothly connected within an advanced transport system. Its direct air links to key urban centers worldwide significantly contribute to fostering global commerce and commercial activities.

Dubai’s business landscape is enriched by a culturally diverse and exceptionally competent workforce. The city draws experts from various areas, offering enterprises a wide range of seasoned professionals who contribute distinctive viewpoints and skills.

Catalysing Connections and Growth

The Dubai Chambers significantly contribute to boosting trade and investment activities between Dubai and Africa.

Through a well-planned network of seven international representation offices spanning the continent, the Dubai International Chamber—one of three chambers functioning under the Dubai Chambers umbrella—offers extensive local assistance to African enterprises.

Situated in crucial market locations, these offices promote stronger cooperation with the African business sector, establishing significant alliances with important players in both governmental and corporate spheres.

They also provide timely investment intelligence to assist companies and investors from Africa seeking to enter the Dubai market and leverage the emirate as a gateway for global expansion.

In addition, Dubai Chambers facilitates trade missions, business forums, and networking events, bringing together African and Dubai-based companies to explore potential partnerships and investment prospects.

In 2024, Dubai Chambers arranged eight international trade missions to significant global markets, with four of these focusing on Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda. These initiatives facilitated 2,227 fruitful business-to-business meetings, serving as an essential conduit for companies aiming to establish strategic alliances and discover fresh prospects.

By year-end 2024, a total of 26,910 businesses from Africa had been registered as active participants with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, indicating an annual increase exceeding 29 percent.

A further 2,292 new members from Africa joined the chamber during Q1 2025, underlining increasing confidence in Dubai as a strategic hub among African companies and investors.

The significant effect of this increasing cooperation is evident in the value of bilateral non-oil trade between Dubai and African countries, which amounted to an impressive AED 257.7 billion for the initial nine-month period of 2024.

A Gateway to Opportunity

The Dubai Chamber offers extensive support for African firms aiming to set up operations in Dubai. This includes customized plans for entering the market, guidance through local regulations, and facilitating connections between businesses and possible financiers via matchmaking programs.

For businesses operating in the technology sector, Expand North Star — which stands as the globe’s premier event for start-ups and investors — provides a crucial forum for African start-ups to display their groundbreaking creations before an international audience.

Organized by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, this yearly gathering strengthens Dubai’s position as an international hub for innovation and a leader in the digital economy. The previous iteration drew more than 1,800 startup companies and over 1,200 investors managing assets worth over US$ 1 trillion, offering numerous chances to forge new relationships and obtain financing.

The prospects for African firms in Dubai are incredibly promising,” states H.E. Lootah. “At Dubai Chambers, we continue to dedicate ourselves to cultivating a conducive environment where African enterprises can flourish, create new innovations, and play their part in the worldwide market. Beyond being merely a doorway, our aim is to strengthen the business sector throughout the region and actively support Africa’s economic growth.

Dubai’s advantageous geographical placement, pro-business climate, and dedication to promoting cooperation make it the perfect starting point for African enterprises looking to broaden their international presence. With Africa’s growing economic impact, Dubai is set to take on a more significant part in driving this success forward.
