Kadjebi (O/R), May 7, GNA – The Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has marked Child Health Promotion Week by urging parents to ensure regular weight checks for their children.
A lot of caregivers do not know about fundamental aspects of children’s health, including vaccination, proper nutrition, personal cleanliness, and measures to prevent illnesses.
As a result, health education equips them with the understanding needed to take action.
Mrs. Mabel Amankwa-Amoah, who serves as the Health Promotion Officer for the Kadjebi district, shared this information with the Ghana News Agency (GNA). The disclosure was made during an interview conducted in Kadjebi within the Oti region.
She mentioned that the week was marked with the theme “Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future; Invest in Your Child. Attend Weightings Regularly,” highlighting the importance of routine weight checks as they provide a straightforward and cost-effective means to safeguard children’s well-being and foster their future success.
The Health Promotion Officer informed GNA that they involved community members, local leaders, schools, and caregivers in the district with the aim of enhancing the health and overall wellbeing of children throughout the area.
Mrs. Amankwa-Amoah likewise raised awareness about vitamin A supplements and deworming, emphasized the importance of using insecticide-treated nets to protect against malaria, and promoted good hygiene practices, amongst other topics.
She emphasized that children’s well-being is a collective duty—not only parents bear this responsibility, but schools, community leaders, and neighbors should also contribute their part.
She emphasized that a healthy child develops into a productive adult, and a more robust child contributes to a stronger community since vaccinations, regular health checks, and other services ensure children remain protected and strong right from the beginning.
